Garage Door Installation in Henry County: What to Expect

A new garage door is one of the best investments you can make in your home. It improves curb appeal, adds insulation, and — if your current door is aging — gives you the reliability and safety features that older doors simply don't have.

If you've been thinking about replacing your garage door but aren't sure what the process looks like, this guide walks you through it from start to finish.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Door

The first decision is the door itself. There are more options than most homeowners realize — and the right choice depends on your home's style, your budget, and how much insulation you need.

Material

  • Steel — the most popular choice. Durable, low-maintenance, and available in a wide range of styles and finishes. Works well for Indiana's climate.
  • Wood — beautiful and customizable, but requires more maintenance. Great for homes where curb appeal is a priority.
  • Composite / fiberglass — looks like wood without the upkeep. A good middle ground.

Insulation

In Indiana, insulation matters. A well-insulated door (look for a high R-value) keeps your garage warmer in winter and cooler in summer, which is especially important if your garage is attached to your home or if you use it as a workspace.

Style

Traditional raised-panel doors are the most common, but carriage-house and contemporary styles have become increasingly popular. RADCO works with all major brands — LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Wayne Dalton, Amarr, Invicta, and more — so you have plenty of options to match your home's look.

Step 2: Measuring and Ordering

Once you've chosen a door, accurate measurements are critical. The opening width, height, headroom (space above the door), and side room all affect which door and hardware will work for your garage.

RADCO handles all of this for you. We'll measure your opening, confirm the right door size, and order the materials. Standard doors are typically available within a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the manufacturer and style.

Step 3: Removing the Old Door

On installation day, the first step is removing your existing door and hardware. This includes the panels, tracks, springs, cables, and opener if you're replacing it. Old materials are removed from your property — you don't have to worry about disposal.

This is also when we inspect the opening itself. If the framing or weatherstripping needs attention, we'll address it before the new door goes in.

Step 4: Installing the New Door

Installation typically takes a few hours for a standard single or double door. The process includes:

  • Installing the new tracks and hardware
  • Hanging the door panels
  • Installing and tensioning the springs (this is the most critical step — springs must be properly balanced for the door to operate safely)
  • Connecting the cables and rollers
  • Installing or reconnecting the opener
  • Adjusting the safety sensors and auto-reverse settings

Step 5: Testing and Walkthrough

Before we leave, we test the door thoroughly — manual operation, opener function, safety sensor response, and balance. We'll also walk you through basic maintenance: how often to lubricate the hardware, what to watch for, and how to use any new features on your opener.

How Long Does It Take?

Most single-door installations are completed in two to four hours. A double door or a more complex installation may take a full day. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we schedule the job.
